I am excited to be returning to Local Color in Springville, AL on December 19 for a performance of “A Christmas Gathering–1880″. This fun program gives a history of the celebration of Christmas and its traditions in America — the setting is a gathering of friends at Christmas time in the year 1880. Why 1880? At this time, all Yuletide traditions in this country were “in place”, and Mr. Edison had not invented his recording machine yet — group singing was always the “high point” of any social gathering and people loved to sing! We will do tunes together that would have been popular in 1880 such as minstrel tunes, Stephen Foster “pop” tunes, songs from the late War Between the States, a few old timey Gospel tunes and, of course, a carol sing. Local Color offers a dinner/theatre setting with a warm atmosphere. There is room for only 70 people. For reservations or information call 205-467-0334.
